Hi!
I'm reading about roman coins and I have a question. What does it mean:
AE1, AE2, AE3, AE4? Only thing which I've found is that AE3 means Half Centenionalis. Thanks for help

It is not really known what the value of late Roman copper or bronze coins were so to determine what the size of these coins are a number was assigned by collectors. Ae means that a coin is made of Bronze or Copper, Ag is for silver and Av (Au) is gold.

A coin that is Ae1 is a bronze coin from 25mm and up in size, Ae2 is 21mm-25mm, Ae3 is 17mm-21mm and Ae4 is a coin less than 17mm.
