Here is a very nice AUish CBH which just arrived in the mail. I must admit the reverse crack shocked me a bit, but I'd like to here your take and shot at the variety. :)

Take Care
Ben

Thanks guys for taking a look. Here is abetter picture showing the tone of the coin. Initially, I'd had the white balance misadjusted and it washed the coin out. The variety is O-107, R-2.

Do you think that, instead of a die crack, the mark could have been some other damage on the die?

There is some mention of die clashes in these early halves, but there may be something here...

Thanks for looking

Ben,

As you probably know from another Forum, I know very little about Bust Half Varieties! However, I was intringued by your statement quoted above and the appearance of the so-called Die Crack. I copied and pasted the pics to my' PC to get a better look at this feature and I am of the thinking that it is not a Die Crack at all! The feature appears to be too perfect of a semi-circle to be a Die Crack and I am now of the belief that it is evidence of a previous Off-Center strike or something else that left evidence on the Die as it is in relief. I don't think that it could be evidence of a first Off-Center strike then the coin was struck again Re-Centered as the feature would have been nearly or totally obliterated by the second strike. The feature would also be pressed into to the planchet and be either flush or incuse in reference to the lowest part of the coin (the Fields) and would not be in relief as it is! Also, there is no evidence (details from the first strike) whatsoever that the coin was struck Centered then again Off-Center.

I hope that you will examine this feature more closely, the provide additional close-up pics of this feature and your' assessment!

Frank
