One of our members (Madbugdie0) got a mention in the Australian Coin and Banknote Magazine by finding a non mint mark HMAS Sydney $1 coin. Nice find Drew and glad you got some credit for it...I was glad Aussie post were at the top of their game as far as express post....which company authenticated the coin?

I picked my CAB up yesterday from the post office. Found the article of great interest too. Also the listing of two reverse die varieties for the circulation 2000 Millennium 50 cents. Still have to check my 50s for both varieties yet.

I would love to know how that HMAS SydneyII dollar had the mintmark missing. Maybe it was the proof die (for the silver version) that was used by mistake for the unc Aluminium Bronze coin? Hope Drew can expand on anything that was found out during the inspections by the dealers and since then.

Well done Drew.

Hey Bigfella & Brissyboy - Although I have not got my CAB yet, I will answer a couple of your questions...

Bigfella - Thanks for mentioning our articles... It was a long collaboration between Ian & myself, have been waiting months for it to get finalised & printed! I would also like to say without Mr Ian Mc Connelly & my unnamed dealer friend, this concept would not have been possible, so thank you both.

I truly hope everyone enjoys the articles, and now you all have a new Aussie 50c variation to be looking for... Good Luck!

Mate as for the company's name that authenticated it... Sorry, this coin was authenticated by them, for me, purely as a personal favour. They had not been named in the article (nor here) because it was not fair to them, to be wasting their time fielding questions about MY coin, which after 6 years since release they have not seen another, so any possible orders to arise from this article could not be met. It was authenticated for me out of friendship, and nothing else. But trust me they are well known dealers & very respected!

Brissyboy - I have no real answers for you... As you know I'm a note bloke and coins are defiantly NOT my forte, hence the original authentication of the coin, which then lead to this article... To try and find out more about it, from clever coin fellow's like yourself... EG. The rarity, opinions or better yet a consensus as to why it's missing it's mint mark, and what we all thought about the article's in general.
As mentioned I can't comment to much without see the article in full as it was left up to Mr Ian Mc Connelly's expertise to do all the editing and the final copy, so I'm not sure what content was included or excluded. And will comment further when Aust Post do their job and deliver me my CAB!! Talk soon....

I should have said "double congratulations" Drew, one for the article and the other for your admission as a "Knight of the Round Coin Table". I am confident your knowledge of Aussie banknotes will come in very handy to members here....

Yes it's a funny thing... I consider myself a knowledgeable Decimal Aussie bank note bloke but yet this makes my second & third coin to appear in the CAB over the last couple of years and nothing on notes... Interesting.

I think I'm behind on this topic and haven't seen CAB, but I do recall last year a 2000 HMAS Sydney II unc $1 in Sydney(?) folder without the mintmark selling on eBay. Is this the coin in question or might there be another out there?

Hey All, Got my CAB today thankfully, and very impressed with the finished product, and I hope you all agree. And thank you for all of your support & kind word, they make it all worth while!

Now for the non CAB subscribers... I gain permission today for you all, to reprint the article on this forum so all of you guy's and girls that don't have access to the CAB magazine aren't left out especially if you interested in Aussie coins & in these two finds of mine. (I found the best way to view it was to "save it" onto your computer and then re-open it), let me know if this doesn't work, also, I have added a couple of picture used in the article which are bigger than the CAB article provided, making them clearer for you all to see what were talking about..... So enjoy, please!

CAB Article Page One

CAB Article Page Two

CAB Article Page Three

HMAS Obverse

HMAS Reverse

2000 Millennium 50c Variation's

And with the last picture pay close attention to the "Flag" one seems "outlined" & the other looks "incused"....

Excellent one Drew....I am impressed.... Still have not receive my copy yet....

The one on the Millennium 50 cents is also interesting, must now go and look at all the fiftys of this issue I have here.

BTW have you seen another variety of the Millennium 50 cents where the "Ï" is fat in the middle giving it the look of a "candlebra"

Lim118 - Must say I haven't looked for this one... (thanks very much LOL) Although I have heard of the "FAT 50's" in more recently produced 50c's.
