hi all, I am a new member and would like info on the cleaning off of crust from silver coins.

pdog1946!

The general rule is to not clean coins, but it's your collection so you can do whatever you want. There are a few ways, but I'm not gonna mention them for fear that I tell you the wrong thing before someone who does know what will do it correctly shows up and says how to.

pdog 1946: Welcome to the CCF!

As with everyone else, I say 'Don't clean coins!'

It is the 'crust' that you mention that intrigues me.
Some coins are 'no hopers' and could do with some improvement to their appearance. If you believe that you have such pieces, post a picture of them, and a comment from us may be justified. Perhaps their condition and value may be sufficiently bad enough to risk treatment.
