I just picked up this Half Dollar today. I've been wanting one for some time now. Can you tell me some info on it? Grade, Variety, Value? Also, the reverse rotation seems to be off. Is that normal, or more or less value?

Not sure if this makes a difference but, it has lettering on the edge (Liberty Cents Half Dollar). It weighs 13.2 grams on my cheapy pocket scale. And (I never knew this) it is bigger than a Kennedy half dollar.

Thank you in advance.

I'd give it an f12 details grade. The surface is off; it just doesn't look right. Possibly acid treated-I'm not sure.

Hmm... Something about the surfaces doesn't look quite right. It almost looks like there are bubbles on the surface. I would check to make sure there is no seam on the edge. I think some of more knowledgeable members may be able to provide an answer.

It's the camera I'm guessing. If you look at the last two pictures, the background looks "bubbly" too.

LT - you mentioned letters on the edge. They should read "FIFTY CENTS OR HALF DOLLAR" so apparently there is no seam on the edges. This is Overton 102 Rarity 2. The only variety where UNITEDSTATES runs together with very small space between the words. The 9 shows recutting at right side.

OOPS! It is Overton 110 R.2, not 102. My bad.

Yeah, I use numismedia. But without the grade, it's hard to value. The dealer said it was VF but I don't know how to grade the Cappped Bust. But thank you for all your help.

I missed what you mentioned about the edge the first time I read your post. I hope the edge does not actually say "Liberty Cents Half Dollar" because as Jeffrose had already mention it should be "FIFTY CENTS OR HALF DOLLAR" with a star between dollar and fifty. If it really does combined by the bubbly surfaces which also show up in the first 4 picture and some mushiness in some of the details, I am leaning more towards counterfeit.

I thought it said Liberty but it says Fifty. And the surface is not bubbly in hand or under scope. I think it's the camera.

I wouldn't go much over F12 for this coin - the reverse feathers don't justify VF. I am really concerned about the obverse, though - the cheek and rear of the face simply should not look like that. Here's an example at a similar wear level for reference:

I see what you're say SuperDave. Mine looks like her throat was cut. I am horrible at taking pictures. I can take 20 pictures and they all looks different. Is your picture a scan? Maybe I should try to scan mine.

My image was done with a dSLR/dedicated macro lens.

I'm not ready to call your coin a counterfeit; it's just....odd. Your photography is plenty good enough to accurately represent the oddness. I'm wondering if it's a flaw in the original planchet.
