I have been collecting coins since I was about eight years old. I always just bought what I thought appealing. In my collection I have this ancient coin, which I believe is Persian. If anyone can help identify it, I will be most grateful. Thank you in advance for any help provided.
Yep, it's definitely a Parthian silver coin, a drachm judging by the strange shape. To confirm the denomination, can you tell us the size and weight?
Grifterrec has some excellent summary pages on Parthian coins. On the basis of the portrait, I think it might be a coin of "the unknown king II", circa 81-70 BC. See This page on Parthia.com for more examples.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
Thanks for the identification. The measurements are 26mm by 16mm as it is oblong. I just ordered a scale and when I am able to weigh the coin I will update the thread. After looking at the pictures I agree with the "Unknown King." Thank you very much everyone! javascript:insertsmilie('')
