Last month ICG showed up at one of our local shows. I've never gone through the process of grading and thought for $9 a coin this would be a good time to start. I've examined many ICG slabbed morgans and they have seemingly been graded fair....some I've considered to be undergraded by a point. I figured what the heck. I've posted these 4 on here before and ICG graded them at what the consensus was on here. What can I reasonably expect from these 4 I am considering flipping them.

Well, first off, I happen to like ICG as a TPG, I've sent off quite a few coins which I believe were all appropriately graded. If you have someone who is looking at the coin and not the holder , you should be getting what the coin is worth to both what you and the buyer have come to agree upon, but then you will alsoget the argument about the holder. In this day and age people looking for investment will consider the premium given by the holder. From my perspective PCGS>NGC>ANACS>ICG. But I believe all of your coins appear to be appropriately graded and yous should be pretyy close to what is eexpected. You can use The NGC price guide on their website which is more realistic than the PCGS price guide which is way over priced

I have never tried to sell a ICG graded coin but have bought a few and to be honest they usually sell for much less than a NGC or PCGS coin would sell for. I purchased a 1878 VAM-82 (not on the label) in MS-64 from Teletrade (which is swarming with VAM cherry pickers) for $140.00 including the premium http://teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?...058&lot=1280 If this were a PCGS or a NGC it would have sold for over $200.00. So its really hard to put a price on these coins because it seems they are all over the place at different times

Nice coins but sort of like already stated, although they are OK for a TPGS, it is just one of those things where a name means so much. Almmost everywhere today you hear "Of course it costs more, it's in a PCGS slab".

I guess the one I'm more concerned about is the 1890-S. There is a substantial jump between 64 and 65. The other 3 are what they are if you buy the coin and not the slab. I've always had a hard time seeing much difference between a 64 and a 65 coin. Am I confident it would crossover to a PCGS slab at 65.....If I were a big company that submitted tons of coins to them then yes I'd be confident.....However I'm not and I know they tend to be really tough with crossovers plus even more difficult when there is a significant jump in value between grades. I may end up trading that one. I have a dealer nearby that likes ICG slabbed stuff and I may be able to work something out with him.

Looks like the grades are good on the first two dollars I think AU58 is a tad high, more like AU53. You will find that ICG in general brings a considerably less amount than PCGS or NGC, unless the dealer is buying the coin and not the holder, which honestly they won't be on these coins most likely. My friend from high school (Keith Love) started ICG which at the time was a great idea, the other two TPG's NGC and PCGS tended to give their regular big clients better grades on borderline coins, Keith's idea was by having a third party company remove all indicators or ownership on the coins there would be less of a chance to grade better for one individual over another. He sold the company a couple of years ago, I was an early client, though haven't used them in a long time, though I always look at coins in ICG holders for potential purchases, as so many dealers pass them up in lieu of PCGS, NGS and ANCS in that order it seems. There are some great deals in ICG holdered coins out there.

I believe ICG to be pretty fair on the slabs I've seen and bought. These I bought raw and decided to take them to the show and get them graded....Randy Campbell looked at them and basically gave me the grades I ended up receiving. I feel like these were graded fairly.....do I think they screw up and overgrade...yup and I also believe they undergrade stuff as well. My dad sent 3 for them to grade and I felt 2 of them were overgraded by a point (1893-s G4 and 89-CC at a F-12)but I also believe the big 3 screw up with grading as well.....we are all human. I guess I could just hold these until/if ICG gets a better reputation which could happen over time @westcoin.....the 86-s picture leaves something to be desired got tired of uploading so I've added two more. These 2 are a bit closer still not that great though.
