With the increase in the price of silver, these are bascially bullion coins now. The $10 coins have 1.44 ounces of fine silver and the $5 coins have half that. So you are looking at about 4.3 ounces of silver. With silver at about $33.50, there is about US$140 silver value.

They sell in the $140-$160 range on eBay.

Take a look on the other side of the $10.00 map if the year is 1974 you hit the jackpot. Good luck :-)

These generally sell for melt value. I have to wonder just how many are left after the great silver melt-offs of 1980 and recently?

the only one with some value is the Mule, as Adanak pointed out. it is worth around $250 and up. used to go for 500+ and some guys are trying to sell them for 900 and up.. but NO takers. I luckily sold one in top shape for 420 about 1 1/2 years ago. for some reason very few want it. there are always some available somewhere on the bay .

I have to wonder what the RCM did with all the sets they bought back at face value in the early 90s when the bullion value of these coins was less than their face value.

I have heard that they and the BOC does not even recognize these as legal tender. Just ask Jo at J&M. he tried to pay his taxes with them years ago. REV Can hesitantly took them with the reservation trhat the mint confirm the value of $10, apparently RCM refused. and Jo was stuck making up the difference with penalties etc.... it is heresay but apparently true.
