Just wondering what you think this grade is. I know it has been scrubbed (this was my oops coin) so I guess I would like to know what you think it might have been without the marks.

Look like it is coming home (applying SJUHawks logic right now).

These pictures are from the auction, on the off chance it is better IRL I will post updated ones.

Well, even without the cleaned/scrubbed surfaces, it's an AG coin all day long. A little more corrosion and it's in Fair territory. Maybe someone will find out what the Sheldon rarity is and you might have something pretty nice!

I think it has AG details.

The Sheldon variety is going to be really hard to tell unless you have the coin in hand.

Diagnostics: single top leaves on wreath vs db. leaf on rgt.
gripped edge or plain edge - stem or stemless wreath (you have stem)
# berries 6L,6R;6L,5R; 5L,4R;5L,5R
Letter styles and maybe about 10 others

Sometimes with the low grade cents you can eliminate certain vaieties but you can never pin the exact one down.

The details and the damage would probably put it a little high for what you paid.

Thanks Kopper Ken! Is there a good site that I can use to see if I can figure out what it is?

Yeah, it is a bit rough but certainly not a cull and the most important factor is that you have a clear 4 digit date.

And the fact that the first three digits are "179". Enjoy the coin and it's history and the story of how you acquired it.
