Hello All, this is an 1877-S Trade Dollar that a person wants to trade with me for some other coins.
I want to run it through the gauntlet here before I even consider trading for this coin. I have no idea why the picture was taken with such a blue tint, unless the person is trying to hide something.
The person said the coin was slabbed in an ANACS holder as MS60 and they sent it into PCGS and it came back in a 'body bag.' OK, lets hear it and don't be kind... feel free to 'rip-it-up.'

In my search for a decent AU Trade Dollar, I have been made a believer of looking for and purchasing a slabbed version and staying away from raw. Looks to have nice details in the wheat, but there appears to have some chatter on the knees and the area in front of her face (pits?), but what do I know?  oih82w8 = Oh I Hate To Wait

The collector said it was slabbed in ANACS and he sent it into PCGS with a minimal grade of MS60 and it came back ungraded. So, at a minimum, PCGS does not see this coin as UNC.
Why would there be pitting in front of the face. I didn't think silver 'pitted' like that

Kinda hard to prove "previously ANACS slabbed". Does (s)he have any photographic proof? I would photograph any coin that I would crack out for resubmittal to another TPG. Those "pits" may be damage from the reeded edges from other dollars in a bag during transportation. oih82w8 = Oh I Hate To Wait

Good point about the slab. I am going to email them and ask if they have a picture of the coin when it was slabbed and for pictures that are not BLUE.

Coin looks damaged from tooling now the color is better, I see what appears to be tool marks around the pitting, and then polish over it. The coin looks genuine, but that said there are a lot of problem free coins out there if you are willing to wait. How good of a deal is this one costing you if you decide to take it? $250 is the highest I'd want to pay for it, then again I don't think I would buy it as it has too many issues for a resale, if this is for your collection, I think those issues will gnaw at you the whole time you own it. I'd pass on this coin.

I agree on the area to the left of the head, on the obverse. Something does not appear 'right,' whether it has been tooled or something... I also think that the person tried to disguise that area with the 'blue tint' in the coin image. 
I think I am going to pass on this coin and the (seller / trader.)

Good call FlipOfACoin! This being the most common Trade dollar made, there is bound to be quite a few more just around the next corner for you to pick!

I actually thing the blue toning makes it look worse than it really is. My guess is they just didnt have the white balance on their camera set correctly, and werent trying to deceive. If they were trying to deceive, I think they would have tried to sell it to you as problem free rather than a details coin.
Good call to pass on it though :)

There is no_way the physical details of this coin rate as low as MS-60. Therefore, the grade on that ANACS slab was "MS-60 Details," and this seller should be leaving your list.
The best thing about a bicycle is that it uses no gasoline, therefore the chance of fiery death is greatly reduced.
