Judging by the response of my recent post on the mint bag of 1964 1c coins I recently bought, I thought this would also be worth sharing. This is a bag of 1000 coins I searched through about 10 months ago, the best coin in the bag was only a MS-64 grade (I suspect it had been moved around quite a bit).

It is a shame I never photographed the bag of 1982 Voyager nickel dollars, that was pretty cool too. I actually got a couple of decent MS-65 coins from that bag. Some years, the coins did not come in bags, they were literally packed into wooden boxes, row upon row. A 1974 nickel dollar box came like that.

Before 1984, don't believe someone when they say they have an "original mint roll" (except for 1939 and 1949 silver dollars). Coins from that era were rolled at banks and companies like Brinks rolled them, from RCM issued bags and boxes. Imagine the errors that the Brinks rolling machines would have rejected... which were just turned back into the mint or scrapped.

Nope, sold most when silver was above $44 per ounce.

Actually, I have a bag of about 500 nickel dollars and 200 half dollars that we use to play poker with... so much more fun to hear the clinking of the coins...
