I have decided to expand my MS type set to include the complete 14-coin example of the Oregon Trail series.
My personal view is that this Fraser/Fraser designed coin is the best of the classic USA silver commemorative set ... and I would enjoy a lifetime of viewing in-hand the complete Oregon Trail series.
Been patiently looking for these over the past year or so ... and am now sharing my 4th addition to the 14-coin series. I'm in no hurry to complete it ... will take whatever time is necessary to find the coins that meet my personal aesthetic.
1937-D Oregon Trail ... Outstanding eye appeal with full cartwheel luster and a great strike. Limited rim toning on the obverse at 3am is balanced by the brilliance of the luster on the remainder of the coin.
My technical evaluation of the coin finds few flaws to report ... under a 10x loupe there are some minor bag hits visible on the obverse bow and right forearm of the Indian Chief ... and the reverse shows some bag marks in the field of the sun.
I tend to agree with the PCGS technical grade assessment ...
Enjoying every day of my search for both MS and well-circulated examples of this tremendous set of USA coin ... filled with history and stories.

Very nice coin. I think an Oregon might be the next addition to my set I love the design of this one as well. The reverse is just gorgeous

Beautiful coin! I agree that a complete set of this wonderful design would always be a joy to view and an accomplishment worthy of mucho personal pride.
I saw a complete uncertified set a number of years ago, it was in a black Capital Plastics holder. Each of the coins was an attractive, brilliant UNC with just some minor toning on a few. It was a wonderful set!
Good luck with your collecting journey, it will be great to see your periodic additions!

I like a lot of the modern commems, but just in general I agree. The old coins put most of the new ones to shame

Stunning coin, David. This is also one of my favorite designs and I thoroughly enjoy my single XF example.  Good luck on the journey and keep the progress reports coming. There are a few posters on this forum that never fail to "wow" me with their new acquisitions, and you are certainly one of them. |

Captain I've seen a lot of reasonably priced 38-Ds for this set in the past. The 37 seems to be pretty common too

Well struck coins can be found from any of the dates ... but as a type collector I would focus my efforts on the first year of issue ... 1926 ... where the Philadelphia and San Francisco mints produced between them 131,050 coins ... Compare this 1926 mintage to the total net distribution of the entire 14 coin series ... 203,142 coins ... and you will find the best type opportunities for the money in 1926 dated coins.
