Thanks...I will say that I have been very lucky on the 64 XWL nickels. None were in the best condition but keepers none the less. My avatar and signature show the first one I found. I hunt for silver on and off. Quarters have basically been a bust for me. Very little return for the time invested. I have done fairly well with dimes but have not picked many boxes up as of late. I guess I'm getting old and the little buggers drive me nutz about half way through the box. :) My best box for dimes produced 11 silvers. I average 1 - 2 dimes per box usually. There is not much to look for besides the silvers. I check all the 69's and look for the Key P coins. There is so much more to look for with nickels and cents.

got this in change from a local convenience store,

1999 twoonie on an unknown oversized planchet

genuine back door mint job

sold it for a good wack of real dollars and some mid 1920's pennies

part of me wished in kept it, but I used to cash to replace a lot of the coins I sold off as a kid to pay for smokes, beer and girls.

I've had so many finds that I'd wind up hijacking this thread. Everything from foreign coins, to error coins to silver to error or variety banknotes. Each week I find at least a couple of coins worth keeping.

For myself, the best find while roll searching is one I posted many months ago. It is a 1953 5 cents, NSF with near design. It's in sad shape (F12) but it is still worth a good sum!

@ royal, I never asked the buyer if he would mind if I disclosed how much he paid so I am not comfortable saying EXACTLY... but let's just say several average sized car payments. the best part of the deal was after we agreed on the price I asked him to up his offer by a few cents... specifically a 1925 and a 1926 :)

@ diggit, you wont ever find one! the expert I sent it to ran down the scenario, somone had to stop the mint press, insert an odd sized planchet, single stamp it out, then get back into production of regular coins (he figured there was no way the planchet would have made it through the automatic feeder along with the regular blanks). I dont know what the security is like at the mint but I am guessing #1 they keep track of machine stopages and #2 its probably hard to carry ANY coins out in your pocket. chances are millions to 1 that there is another out there.

the fact that I got it at 7/11 in change is amazing. the fact my kids didnt steal it out of my chane jar (where it sat for 3 monthes - I didnt know is was any different from a regular 1999 twoonie, I just never paid much attention to common coins before) and spend it is even more amazing.

i am really enjoying the coins I bought with the sale money so all is good

@Wade - I wonder if it isn't a test blank from the counter-fitters? The new 'toonies' are here now because they were copied along with the loons. So the 'line stoppage' may not have happened at the RMC, but in somebodies basement.

DC, a couple of very well known people (both who've writen for charlton) confirmed it as from the mint. plus I dont think that year was ever part of the counterfeit runs. but anything is possible I suppose.
