Quote: What gives evidence of cleaning? The darkness around the stars on the front, and inside the shield, beak, and around the arrows on the back. The grime remains in crevices and around devices often when a coin's surfaces are cleaned up.

to the forum. Nice coin. Photo hints: Carefully remove the coin from the 2X2. Details are much clearer when the coin surface is unobstructed and less reflection. Make sure the camera is perpendicular to the coin, to reduce distortion.

Super nice seated quarter, could be cleaned but not harshly for sure. I wouldn't worry about it. Great detail in the face and hair.

I also would go with EF40, and agree it's an enviable first purchase!

XF40 and nothing screams cleaned to me. No hairlines or the like. Id take that in my collection in a heartbeat. Good job.
It is could've, would've or should've, not could of, would of or should of.

My question is, assuming this pic is accurate, would it get slabbed by ngc/pcgs or no?

PCGS probably would slab it, but in my opinion, I would not do so as the cost to do so would be a large % of what the coin is worth.

Wow, after reading what you paid for it, you did awesome! I would continue shopping wherever you got this coin. The more you read and learn, you will be able to continue making high quality purchases such as this.
For a first coin, I would say you are off to a pretty darn good start. I do not see anything on this coin which makes me think cleaned... looks problem free to me.

I'm with the VF-35 or maybe EF-40 crowd. Obverse looks EF-40 but reverse looks VF-35.

Quote: also my pictures may not be the best Your pictures are just fine. The quarter is a very nice one, it doesn't appear to have been cleaned and or any other problems like scratches or major edge dings which would be distracting. Ed ANA LM-3175
