Check out the awesome deal someone is going to get on this 1973 Large Bust! www.ebay.com/itm/150844185964

The person getting the awesome deal is obviously the seller. It disappoints me that eBay doesn't respond to the reporting of items before someone ends up getting ripped off.

Yep. The seller originally didn't upload a picture of the obverse, which set off a million red flags in my mind. I kept an eye on it (in case it actually was a large bust he was selling) and when he uploaded the picture of the obverse I reported it. eBay hasn't done anything.

It's surprising how often these are mistaken. I've done 3 estate appraisals recently and each had a small bust labeled as a "large bust". I hate being the bearer of bad news especially with estate appraisals but grampa wasn't always right.

I'm surprised that anyone could actually mistake these. I would almost think that everyone who owns a "large bust" would also own a small bust, and if they look identical, that should tell you something is up. I don't even own one of these coins (surprising since I only collect quarters and have MS coins virtually back to 1910) and it's blatantly obvious to me even at first glance. Just my two cents.

I think a lot of novice collectors don't know how to tell the difference. Hence the number of threads about it.

Agreed, it's a tricky one for novices. When I started collecting it was just a commemorative for me until I knew about the bust sizes, and after that I checked them all but still you want to believe that what you have is rare so you're stare at it and it drives you nuts but only because they're identical.

The item has now been removed from eBay. Good to see the eBay police doing their job.

Yeah, I meant the 1973 quarter from the item # that ocanada posted. I suppose it wasn't technically a link. I get so used to copy pasting item #'s into eBay by rote I forget lol.

Here is the clue:
The small bust have 120 beads around the queen portrait; and the Large have 132.
I did the exercise with images obtained on the web, and it works just right every time.
Mystery finally solved...
As for the one sold yesterday on eBay (a supposed Large one), if you look at the sale report, the transaction was Cancelled.
Good hunting guys,
À bientôt
;-)
