Its a completely weird chain of events that has led me here, but I think I'll be able to get into collecting! A few weeks ago, I randomly bought a metal detector for something to do that weekend. I've got access to quite a few old farms with endless supplies of "things" buried. I'm not doing it to find some secret buried treasure, and I have no ambitions of finding a million dollar coin. Simply something to amuse me and spend more time outside. While that weekend was a bust, I'm still playing with the detector. I was reading on a different forum about the goodies that some of the other guys have found. Naturally, it always leads to coins and values. Found some really interesting reads and was introduced to some really beautiful coins. As a kid, my grandparents would always give me something of special numismatic "value". I've got a moderate stack of American Eagles, a Peace, and an envelope full of $2, $5 red seals, and other uncirc bills. They've sat in my safe for years and I've never given them much thought. After routing them out and playing with them for a little, I decided that I should start gathering some of my own!
Who knows how long I'll stick with it, but it'll be more in the collection that I'll have for years to come. Right now, I'm in love with Morgans!! I think they're just brilliant! Just bought my first one (1900-o) and already looking for a few more. I probably overpaid for it, but such is life.
I'll be lurking a bit and trying to gleam so knowledge from everyone! Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.
Metal detecting is not my cup of tea really but I watched a couple of video's on youtube of people digging stuff up around churches and castles and I think I can understand the attraction now. (Though lots of moments of excitement many more dissapointments)
I wish you luck with that and hope you uncover a few gems, as for the collecting there are plenty of worse ways to spend your money than on Morgans.
