I have the Whitman guidebook, titled "The Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards", 6th edition.
It's not quite everything I'm looking for, but it does have its pluses. Can anyone suggest another one?
In THIS book:
The Good:
-It has great information about the history of coins and coin grading standards.
-It also has great general information about TPGs, counterfeits, storage, conservation, etc.
-It has a wonderful section that discusses eye appeal and its importance. They provide excellent color photographs of different coins of various assigned grades. Then they go on to critique each coin, and point out its positives and negatives. This was a real eye opener for me and really got me looking for quality examples, not just a grade.
The Bad:
-The pictures it provides for grading are black and white and they're not very detailed.
-The descriptions of each grade could stand a tab bit of elaboration. For the Mint State grades they use the same generic description for every coin.
