Went metal detecting today and found a half. Although it was only 1985 it was my first half to find!

Stopped by a bank after school yesterday looking for some halves. Teller said all she had was $2 worth. She laid them on the counter and one was a 68.

Pretty much it so far. Banks around here are dry on halves lately.

Stopped at the bank today. Got a roll of halves and 10 loose Ikes. Had a big find in the roll, got a very clean 1968d and then found a 1976s proof that had been put into circulation. After all the hundreds of worthless Bicentennials I have looked through, this one sure had me smiling and it was the first time I ever found Ikes and I didnt even ask for them!

Congrats cashgardener. I have had 0 success with loose halves from tellers and customer rolls, the complete opposite of most people on this thread! I picked up another $3 from a bank at lunch and once again I am el skunkador.

My tellers at bank of america had saved 2 money envelopes (30 dollars in each) saved for me. 8 40%! I'm sure you guys have thought of this but the tellers at BoA asked for my phone number and they have been giving me calls when they get rolls or loose in. I come and pick up!

Now say I go to my local bank ask for a roll of halves and I end up finding something that is somewhat rare...wouldn't it still be worth face value because it is circulated? I am somewhat confused on how people buy these rolls when they are circulated?

Just because a coin is circulated does not make it worth face value all the time. For instance a silver coin is still silver, and the metal in those is worth more then face value even if it was melted into an unidentifiable lump.

And what half dollars are the ones that are silver? Just 1964? Or are the Franklins silver too?

anything from 1965-1970 is 40% silver, older is 90% silver, including Franklins, walkers and older. With older, you will almost certainly be above silver value if the date and mintmark are readable.

I also had 2 2009 P and a 2009 D in my fed box yesterday. Probably my best NIFC finds yet!
