I went out today and got $200 in halves...I found a dumping ground. But I decided to make a decision and roll them back up because one bank I went to said the teller who had some halves would be in after noon. I bought $140 from her and found 22 40%. So I was on my way home, when I saw to hawks in the air above my car...and being that I am part native american, I feel the Hawk is my spirit guide. So I took this as a sign and went to one last bank that has never had any 1/2's. Not sure why I chose that one, but I did. Just felt right. The teller told me she had $110 in 1/2's come in this morning. I chuckled to myself when I saw them, I knew I had hit pay-dirt! they were taped shut. Obviously an older stash I thought for sure. WELL.......69 out of the 220 were 40%. No 90%, but who cares.
I think I also have a 1977 (D) DDR, anyone ever seen one? I am too new to this to know for sure. I am not anywhere near to being finished with this hoard, I feel bigger finds are awaiting me.

Never! Never give up on a bank that rarely has any half dollars! I had a Good day today and I really wasn't planning on doing any searching! I was on my way to a dump bank and decided to check a bank that I pass all the time but check less often than other banks! the teller there recognized me from another branch and asked me if I wanted halves! She had 14 rolls and I had only $47.00 as I was on my way TO the dump bank. I bought 4 rolls and said I might stop back later. I got I'm my truck and looked at the end of 2 rolls and saw silver! I backtracked 2 blocks to my bank and got out some cash and went back and bought the other 10 rolls! (1) 1964, (5) 1965, (4) 1966, (18) 1967, (18) 1968d, (9) 1969d!
I'm really glad that I got the (5) 1965's! Now I have a roll of those Booger's! They seem harder to find than the 90%! Don't ever give up on a bank! This particular bank has never had any rolls in the past but I've gotten 2 40% loose in the last 8 months! You never know!

Well it was a lesson learned I will definitely go there again. When the teller handed them to me, she said...."I was hoping someone would want these" lol

I will not overlook this bank again

A couple weeks ago I started roll searching, and I had asked my BAnk if they would please order me a box of halves. I let her know have been a customer since 1990 , and when they said they couldn't and when I asked why she,(a teller) said maybe because we are such a big BAnk we dont mess with it! Well, I just found my dump Bank I thought to myself! I started getting customer wrapped rolls from other banks and did amazingly well! Three rolls of 40% in a week 1/2 ! Besides 2 Franklns , a 2004 s clad proof and 7 90%! Wow I am so hooked! But I soon learned that isn't allways the way it is! This week has been so meager, thats the way it goes I guess, Oh and by the way I found a bank, not even mine that lets me order a whole box and I can buy as many as I want out of it! Go figure!

Go Figure! Most banks are happy to unload any half dollars they have laying around! All except one certain Bank of America that wouldn't because I didn't have an account! A month ago there was no problem! I have picked up a box from another bank who apparently keeps one on hand for customers! They were more than happy to let me have it and didn't even ask if I was a customer! (which I'm not) Being friendly and respectful goes a long way! I regularly check alot of banks for half dollars! Most of them I don't have an account with because I dump at my bank. They all know when I walk in I'm looking for halves. Today I walked in to a small bank and they saw me and broke out the Halves and Ikes! Nothing good this time, but I occasionally get some 40% from them!

Ratman,
If you go to Bank of America Online they have a special promo right now where you can open a checking account with no min. balance and no maintenance fees, just have to open it with a min. of $25 and wallah you're now a customer. I did it this morning. Only on line though not at the branches.

Yeah, I guess the smaller banks are more accomodating and friendly, and my bank works well as being my dump bank. All is good with the Universe!

BuffaloLover, Thanks for the tip! But I'm not worried about it! The teller must have had PMS that day! I've been to other branches since then and had no problem. I already have accounts at 3 different banks.

tls867, on that $3000 that slipped through your fingers, that's what you call being in the right place at almost the right time! Ouch!

ratman, do you ever just pull up to the drive-up windows and ask? I've had some success like that at banks where I don't have an account. I find I can cover a lot more ground that way.
