I can understand what you are saying, it just doesn't make sense (at least to me) for them to have to open rolls rather than sell them to you.
Good luck in your hunting!
Chuck.

After reading several pages here and having $40 burning a hole in my pocket, I decided to go out a pick up a few rolls today to see what I would find. 8 banks later, I have 2 lone JFK clads (1984 and 1998 - 1 each from 2 different banks) and a Susan B. Anthony (The teller said he had a "silver dollar" so I just said "Sure, I'll take it" on the off chance that it was something good). The closest I got to finding any at all was one teller who said she had 6 rolls 2 days ago and was down to 4 rolls yesterday, but had none left today. Oh well...maybe next time.

bwbollom, I sure do feel your pain. is it possible to make nice with your banks tellers and maybe have em call you when they get any in and/or order you a box of halves? thats 500 dollars but will hold you for a while : P

motos: A couple of the tellers said they couldn't order halves without me even asking! I could probably get some to order them if/when I have the money to do so...I have a couple of accounts at 2 different banks...but I'm a grad student, so getting together $500 isn't the easiest. That's why I was hoping to be able to find some available rolls, but no such luck. I'll keep checking around or see if any of them would be willing to call when they get some in. Thanks for the info!

one quick note too, keep going to more banks, and make repeat trips even if they dont have them the first time you never know what they would have the second time or seventh : P

I agree, keep checking! Some of the banks around here that had nothing couple of months ago are yielding rolls with silver now! You'll never know if you don't check!

Thanks guys! I'll definitely check back...was just kind of surprising that none of the banks had anything!

I think this might of been addressed in an earlier post regarding selling/hoarding.
Right now I'm hoarding, but lets say , based on the NY Spot price for Silver which closed Friday at $16.04 per ounce for bullion, what would be a fair price for complete rolls of Kennedy's if I decided to sell to a dealer etc based on that figure.
At 16.00 per oz 1964 rolls are valued at $115.74 and 40% full rolls are valued at $47.33.
This is for "Bullion Only" - not any numismatic value.
1. 1964 90% Silver Kennedy's ?
2.40% 65 to 69 Full rolls of Kennedy's ?.

I'm in hoarding mode also! I've heard forum members reporting between 10-12 X face for 90%. That would be $100.00-$120.00. However 40% are a different thing altogether. They are lesser desirable of the two and heard from members here that the local shops were paying 2.5-3 X face. However I've noticed that larger lots often achieve 4X face on ebay when silver is on an upward motion.

I am going half dollars and was wondering, what should I be looking for exactly. Are there any rare dates and how can I tell of the coin is a proof? What should I look for while searching?

Thanks!
I'm looking for pre-1970, but is there any others post 1970 that might have some value?

The ballad of the Silver SearcherOh give me the road, and the wide country highway, And give me a bank, that's going my way. Oh give me the road, and the wide open spaces, And give me a bank, that's going places. Copyright 2008 EddieSpin

Save the S Kennedys, those are the proofs, and the '87 P and D, which weren't intended for circulation. Have to git. The others, I'm sure, will fill you in from there. Good luck!
