It's time for post #500, and I finally found some silver in a teller tray!

I saw 2 silvers shining at me and asked the teller for all 8 halves that she had. She held up a purple toned 1964 and said "Do you want this?" (implying it was ugly). I smiled and said "yes please" I got from her:

1964
1966 x 3
1967 x 2
1968-D x 2

I also went through a Fed box and got 2 1964 and 17 40% - one of my best boxes yet!

Found a bank with Sunday hours. Sure is nice seeing I picked up a few customers rolls they had and landed 12 40%s!

Glad to see we are having better days! Wiki131wiki, If you do see a 1970 be sure to keep that too they are rare, only 2,150,000. mintage, besides being a 40% and
Eddiespin, nice ballad, we need more verses!
and to bwbollom, take heart, all the silver I recently found were just customer "brought in" rolls, not from a box, I cant afford 500.00 either!

Checked 6 banks this morning and gathered about $20.00 in halves from teller trays! Not a roll to be found! Yielded one 1965. I know I posted earlier that I could finally put together a roll of those "suckers", but I was wrong! I'm now at 19. I swear 1965's are harder to find in the wild than 90%.

Went through a Brinks box this weekend and only found 2 40%ers in one roll and I found a 1976 that looks like it is from a proof set but it is not an S mint mark and it is not silver. I am going to post a pic on the Moder U.S. Coin section. I would like to hear form you all.
I have not had any good experiences with brink boxes, does anyone know if brinks keeps all the silvers?
I have had better finds with customer wrapped bank rolls.

I think on average most of us have better luck with customer wrapped rolls even though they aren't always consistent. (and I've been running into dump banks) There is a very rare occasion when somebody hits an extremely good box ( mother of all boxes) like the one posted on this forum! There are some good boxes out there but you have to work through the junk boxes to find one that has silver!

Twangator - I had something similar a few weeks ago. I posted it to this thread but no one has gotten back to me on it. I am wondering if it was chrome plated?

Well, I had slightly more success on my journey today. 7 banks...up until the 6th, I had only found $4 worth of loose JFKs, no rolls, no silver. At the 6th, I asked if they had any rolls and they teller asked how many I wanted! I asked how many they had and he said $110 worth. I bought 3 (all the cash I had on me) and he pulled out 3 clear tubes which I could immediately see were all clad/non-silver. I thanked him and went out to my car to check and be sure...yep, random dates, nothing really of interest. Now I'm not sure if I should go back and try the rest of the ones they have...

But the rest of the story...I drove down the street a bit and saw another bank and decided to cash in the ones I'd just picked up so I'd have bills to buy rolls with. The teller looked at the 3 rolls and asked if I collected them. I said yes, but those were ones I didn't need and asked if she happened to have any. She said she keeps all that get brought in because there are a few people who come in and ask for them, but if I wanted to just trade those in for the ones she had, I could. She had $24.50 worth in her drawer. I thanked her and went out to my car to check what she had...not a ton...mostly the same type of stuff that I'd just exchanged...but she did give me a 1967 and a 1968-D!

So in 2 days of searching, I've gone to 15 banks, found just under 6 rolls and pulled 2 40% JFKs...That's a lot of work! Do you think I should go back and pick up the other $80 worth at the one bank that had them in clear plastic coin holders?

I'd go back and get the rest of those with the clear tubes. Those are nice to have to store your silver in. Also - if they offer you halves, if you have the money - buy them all.

I try to buy everything from the banks that I check regularly! (this way I'm moving the junk out of my territory) I dump them farther away! I have 3 banks that I dump at, one is about 7 miles away in one direction, and the other 2 are 10 and 14 miles away in the other direction! I try to dump as many as possible south of me and it seems to be working because I don't find a tremendous amount of clad around me! On the other hand, most of the banks around my dump banks south of me are also being dumped at by somebody else! I've found my dumped rolls scattered all over the city when I try searching out there. I've managed to find a couple of banks that have had some silver that the others have missed!

I was pretty sure I'd go back and pick up the rest that they had (if they still have them) tomorrow morning, but wanted to see what the experts here had to say. I was just not expecting to see them in clear tubes and was wondering what that was all about. I definitely kept the tubes from the ones I got today. I cashed in the clad from today, so I have $40 cash...I'll probably go through once and see if they still have them, pick up 4 rolls and see if I get anything. Then go to a dump bank and trade in the clad for bills and go back for whatever remains. Unfortunately, I don't have much cash at the moment, so I have to do it slowly. Thanks for the comments!
