JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

I had some amazing beginners luck today!

Before today I had only ever gone through 1 roll (last week) and they were all 1998P.

Today I was in downtown DC and decided I would pick up a second roll. Went to two banks and they had nothing. Third was closed. At the fourth the teller brought out a roll, but she said she had to recount it as a customer brought it in. I noticed the roll said 67-68 on its side and coins all looked a little old. I walked to one side, looked at the first few coins and they were all 1967 or 1968. I went back to the teller (no one else was there) and asked if she had more. She had four more rolls. I bought two, saw they also had 40% and then used my last twenty dollars to buy the last two. When I got home I checked and every one of the 100 coins was 40% silver! I guess someone must have inherited the coins and brought them in without realizing what they were.

I could not believe my luck. I will look through more rolls, but I don't I will find anything like that soon.

Road Trip today! Headed to the mountains in search of Halves! Found many of dump banks and got a lot of clad! Finally came upon a very small town with a small bank and asked for halves. The teller told me she had $3.00 worth and that they were silver( she then looked at the dates on them and gave me some misinformation telling me that 1968 was the last year for silver half dollars). I thanked her and smiled and asked if she had anymore and she remembered that she had a roll below. The roll also had 18-40% so I ended up with 24-40% from the one bank. The rest of the trip was a total bust!

Did three boxes of halfs last night and all were skunks. Running count for skunk boxs now up to 6.

I got 6 boxes today, findings were-

26-40%ers
6-1964
1-1963
1-1942 walker
Almost all were in 2 boxes like last Friday.
Also these and the ones I found last Friday were in black&white wrappers.

I had some luck today. I went to a one bank, two rolls, nothing.

Went to another and they said they had about 23 rolls in the back that was there a long time, so I bought 5 rolls, but I asked the teller (Anna) if I could buy more later and she said fine, I thanked her and left but I didnt get anything out of them either.

Then I went to another bank after dumping my coins and the lady teller was real nice as she went back to the vault to check for me when I asked. And she came out with a tupperware bowl full of Kennedys! Just loose and she asked if I just wanted to go through them I could!
Wow, I said I really, really appreciate that and I will try to be fast,( even though there was only one other customer in the bank) and she said dont worry theres no rush!. What an opportunity! I only saw about five silvers looking thru it ( she said there was about $50.00 in there). So I thanked her again and said that was so very nice of her to let me do this!. I bought them

I went back to the other bank were I bought those other rolls and remembering that when I got all that silver last week, my first rolls yielded nothing either, I bought 4 more rolls from Anna and this time ( same kind of wrappers as earlier) I got 15 40%'s! I was happy!
One of them was a bicentennial-S silver proof! That lets me know that at least some of them werent from "a dump". I definately plan to go back and eventually buy all of them!
Too bad Monday is a holiday!

Chuckster, The No FG halves had been discussed on the forum before (I have found a couple like yours). The popular consensus was that there had to be no trace of the initials. I've found a few where only a very faint trace of the "F" was visible under magnification. Value? Not sure!
I've noticed that a few of your finds mention Silver clad proofs. Not all proofs are Silver. Since 1971, the only silver clad proof was the 1976 Bicentennial (40%). There were no more Silver proofs until 1992 with the introduction of the Silver Proof sets! These are 90% silver! (regular clad proofs were also produced for these years)
