I would echo XavierofGreen on the coin machine bags. I just picked up a bag totalling $531. Its a 50/50 thing. Could be someones dump but however could legitimately be someone who cashed in a piggy bank. If thats the cases, tellers wont get their paws on it. Hit a couple other smaller towns today and picked up $70 in hand rolled rolls. Will let you know what I come up with over the weekend...

Picked up 2 boxes yesterday and here are my results.

31-40%ers
3-90%ers
2-Ben Franklins
1-Proof 1973
3-Nic's 2002, 2004 & 2006.
The banks messed up my order and I was only able to get 2 boxes yesterday instead of 8.
I should have 4 boxes coming in on Monday, if they dont mess up my order again.
What is the going price right now that you all are gettin for 40%ers and 90%ers? Here the highest paying shop is 11X face for 90%ers and 4X Face for 40%ers. Anyone have anything different in your area?

I dumped my halves today and asked the teller if she had some rolls of quarters, dimes and nickels. I filled all but 1968 d in my modern quarter book, finished my 64-to date (except 2009) on my dimes and filled a bunch of holes in my nickels. 1000 dollars in change in 2 days and not one piece of silver. what am I doing wrong? Is this unheard of?

2 box total:

6- 40%'s
1- 1987P

*Thanks XoG for the add't info.

I've seen the tellers seal the bags as they are full and you are right, once it's sealed its impossible to open unless you actually cut across the entire width of the bag and I would think a teller would be in a lot of trouble doing that.

My local bank is labeling these bags up for shipment to another bank
(Wachovia).

What is Wachovia Bank doing with them once they receive them from other banks?

Open them or send them intact to companies like String & Son for re wrapping ?

Road tripped to a small bank about 35 miles away. No halves, someone was in within the last couple days and asked for them. Frustrated I worked back to my home town with 2 smaller towns between. Stopped at the first one, one bank had $47 worth and the other had $30 worth. All of them were hand wrapped. Stopped by a local bank and took the $531 that they had bagged, no rolls. Got home and opened the first roll, popped off a '69. That made the trip worth my while. Opened 2nd and 3rd roll, nothing. 4th roll, BINGO! 8 of the 20 were 40%ers! I guess it shows it doesn't matter how much you buy at a time, its what you get! Anxious to dig into the bag this weekend. Happy hunting everyone...

Went thru my $531 that I got from a bag off the coin counter yesterday. I was hesitant on what I was going to find or if it was dump. Produced the following: 1 65, 3 67's (1 in beautiful condition, 68D, and a 69D. Not to bad...

Tls867 and Twangator, thanks for the inspiring words. Decided to go it cold turkey for the last week on the boxes. Hey, that's a pun.

Anyway, next week I'm off, so (so to speak), into the valley of death will ride the six-hundred, again. Hell, we're hopeless addicts, after all, what can I say?

I picked up my usual two boxes of halves on friday:

First box - 1 1971 S proof, 4 NIFC - 2 2007 and 2 2005.

Second box - 1 1964, 14 40% silver.

Its kind of funny how the results vary so greatly between the two boxes. I would think the coins would come from the same batch and that each box would have a few silver. I'm just happy not to get skunked. Have 3 boxes on the way this week and I will post the results later in the week!

Based on XoG's info ,I've changed my thinking on this regarding Brinks/Fed boxes.

Got 5 "mixed boxes" coming in this week.
Post results end of the week.

I got a box I'm gonna go though today.
Chuckster, I'm 99% sure Wachovia sends them out to their cash services company (either gardia, brinks, ect). Some smaller banks have treaties with larger banks to handle such things so they dont have to set up contracts with cash servicing companies themselves. The only other possibility is that Wachovia is rolling the coin themselves, though virtually no bank does that these days, most use a cash servicing company.
