Stopped at my bank to pick up box of halves.... Teller didn't know why they weren't ordered but did offer me 4 old rolls of pennies. All 4 rolls were solid LWC. Oldest was 1914.

Sorry guys I'm new to cents. But what exactly makes a cent a red. What does a red have to have. Is red a grade?

Pennies are made of copper or plated with copper. The color of copper is close to red. It is not the red color of your car. I would say more like orange. When copper is exposed to air, copper is oxidized. And its color turns to brown. Just compare the color of a new 2012/2013 penny to an old beating penny, the difference is very apparent.
Red/Brown is part of copper coin grade . Red is more desirable.

1 box down and one more to go.

8 wheats:

1940-P
1944-P
1945-P
1947-D
1949-P
1953-P
1956-D

3 Canadians, a VERY nice 1972-S that will replace what's in my book and several other good replacement coins. I still have to sort through the 1998, 1999, and 2000's for any WAM.

I stopped by the bank today to get my first box of pennies. When I got out to the car I noticed through the top of the box they were all very shinny, I looked closer noticed they were all 2013 P. I went back into the bank and exchanged them for loose rolls they had that were not new.

I get got home and checked ebay for boxes just out of curiosity, they are going for quite a bit more than $25 I will be heading back on Monday to see if they still have the box there.

Anyway here is my haul from my first box.

5- Canadians

1- 1974 dime

1- 1944 P Wheat
3- 1958 P Wheat
1- 1951 D Wheat

Nice Greaser Don!

I have never seen a 2004 with 90° rotation! In 2003 the mint went created new processes and procedures that were supposed to eliminate errors. I guess it didn't work out! I have a 2003 that is 10% off center. LOL
