This one of my better raw Franklin halves, and I am not sure about the grade. If I had to make a stab at it, I would say...MS63

Your opinions, please!

Success,

If it's MS then it must be a 64 at least. From the pics it appears there could be a touch of wear but if not, then 64-65.

Nice coin!

64/65 very clean fields, only marks of note are a scuff on the cheekbone and a bagmark on PASS AND STOW

I would give it a MS-64 but no higher. Not struck well enough for a MS-65. This is an average to below average strike for this series, notice the lack of detail of the curl of hair behind the ear. Not FBL (Full Bell Line) either and the lettering of the motto on the bell is very indistinguishable. Very nice looking coin as it doesn't have very many of the characteristic bag marks that are common with Franklin Halves as there are many high points on the coin that abrade with each other when they were put into rolls. Mintage was 19,966,850 so it is fairly common to find them in this grade. Nice coin overall, good find.

I have to agree with everyone. It looks higher than an MS-63. I might go as high as an MS-65 for this one. Beautiful coin.

I am a beginner and just reading the red book, it looks like there is some wear on the bell lettering....maybe it is just the photo. It is a nice clean coin though. I would be proud to own it..MS60

Very nice Franklin, I'm going to say MS-63.

That's a weak strike, as opposed to wear. You tell that from a couple of things. One, it's the same vague, indistinct look on both sides. Another is, that rim, it's still nice and sharp. Could go 64, but no higher, IMO. Very clean one. Depends on how it looks and reflects, in-hand, really. You're certainly in the ballpark, though, guessing 63. Nice coin.
