Hi folks.. I don't know if this sort of topic was opened before but I couldn't see it so I wanted to give it a try..
ưn three categories, I want to ask your most favourite British (Mainland) coin?.. 1-) Copper/bronze, 2-) Cupronickel/Brass and 3-) Silver.. I am thinking of including years after 1800 (so, more nkown and common coins will be on the list.). .Let me start. 1-) Wren farthings.. (I love the bird on them..) 2-) 1949-50-51 Halfcrowns, because the design is very nice. 3-) George V florin, .900 silver issues.
Hope this'll be a fun topic.:) Love life, and life loves you back!

G'day, I like the Pistrucci image of St George on sovereigns since 1817, and on some crowns. I also like Britannia, best known on copper coins upto 1860, and on bronze after that date. Britannia has also appeared on at least one silver coin. Peter in Oz

6p is my favorite. The ? has been asked before but that's ok as I like to talk about the only collection other than U.S. coins that I have. I think I like the tanners because they remind me of the U.S. Nickel, which is my favorite U.S. coin. Of course if you look at my avatar that will give it away as to which British coin I like the best.

Copper/bronze: I can't go past the Kruger Grey halfpenny, with the ship Golden Hind on it. Cupronickel/brass: As the best of a bad lot, I'd have to vote for the Scottish shilling of Elizabeth II. Silver: a tough choice, but I'd go with the Edward VII "Britannia standing" florin.

Sap, definately! I almost forgot the "Britannia standing" florin. relatively a short lifespan design, however, it is a very exquisite and lovely coin. Guys back then were lucky in sense of coins, not many commemoritive coins has that high class of design back those conis of last century.
Irishraider, yes, silver sixpence is a lovely coin, I keep one for my weeding too!:).. Also, similar design threepence is lovelier than the old type of threepence, in my opinion.

BTW, why is the florin "Britannia standing" has that short lifespan, is it just because King Edward VII reigned only that short period of time?.. does anyone know?

The silver penny. Here's one from 1756: They're very tiny. And the color is much more silver than the above photo would suggest. (I like the colors of the photo more than the coin.) I just sold the above on eBay for $34, so it's not like silver pennies are impossibly expensive. I guess people must find them with metal detectors.

It's a little before the year 1800 limit, but cartwheel 2D coins from 1797 look great

I don't have a huge collection of coins from Great Britain. Of the ones I do have, this would be my favourite. I like bi-metallics. Steve

I am rather partial to animals. Recognize this as Lady Godiva? Whatever sort of animal is on the reverse? 1/3 elephant 1/3 lion 1/3 pig?
