Hi, I collect world coins, and catalog my coins based on its country's flag. There are 194 flags flying and none of them is a Hongkong flag and I have a Hongkong coin.
Where should an old colony 1960 coin be cataloged? example is Hongkong - with the New Country (China) or with the previous (Great Britain)
I know it could go either way as I have seen with a lot of website coin galleries per country, but I'd like to catalog mine same as majority see it.
Thank you for your opinions and how you see it

One has to be somewhat flexible in our ever changing world. At the time the coin was issued Hong-Kong wasn't a part of China. Neither was it a part of Great Britain (although it is subjective whether to consider a colony a part of the empire). In your case, I guess, I would have a common heading "China" and then have some subcategories, i.e. Hong-Kong, Macao (eventually it will be Chinese as well), Taiwan (another very gray area). If, on the other hand, you go for the number of countries in your collection (the more the merrier) you should list every principality separately.

I have similar issues with places like Morocco. I store the Morocco under French rule in the French box, the newer stuff alphabetically under M, just like any other country. Same with Algeria, etc. I've also got the problem with former Portuguese colonies!

Copy, thanks all for the possibilities, will go GB-China for Hongkong based on the coin year, except years 98-99-2000 which is a special category Hongkong for Hongkong during transition. That about covers all the bases, still...can't get it out of my mind.
Although there's a lot of other coins there too, they sort of resolve themselves, Hongkong is the triple-decker sandwich, where to bite?, and it has a flag! (thanks sap)
this is about the toughest coin situation for me....
