Okay......just did a box of halves......no big deal normally, but I've found a MASSIVE amount of N.I.F.C.'s !

UPDATE : (now done with the box) (And these are ALL BU's !)

Final numbers of NIFC's :
2 - 2008 D
1 - 2007 D
10 - 2006 P
5 - 2006 D
13 - 2005 P
8 - 2005 D
9 - 2004 P
7 - 2004 D

And 1 - 1964 90%er ! ....

And many 2003 P & D's that I've thrown back.
These are all BU condition too. Now, normally I don't save any NIFC's....but just a few really nice ones for future albums.
Should I keep all of these or pitch em' back ? ...

I also found a very strange Kennedy that is 1977 (no mintmark....so Philly I assume) But it appears to be Silver (edge of the coin shows no copper) and PROOF (it's got that glossy shiny proof look to it too)?? ....But there is no "S" mint on this coin (and it isn't stamped over with the "1980" that I mention below)
It also has a left stamp (lower left of Kennedys portrait) 1960 and a right stamp of 1980 (on the lower right of Kennedys portrait). So I assume this is possibly "silver plated" by some county fair people in the 1980's or some "event" that's a 20th anniversary or something ? ...
I'm really curious and puzzled with this one.
And yes I will try to get pics up of this coin soon unless someone can tell me exactly what this is without them.

And I did find some nice BU 2003's and 2002's.....and even some other older years that were just SOOOO BU that I had to set them aside.

As far as this being someone elses "dump".....you would think so, but this box was from the Fed Res. ! I don't know how I could get someone elses "dump" from there !

I coin tubed them for now.....about $33.00 worth that I'm keeping out of that box.....(never kept so many from a box in all my life !)

Anyone have any thoughts on that "supposed" 1977 Silver Kennedy I found too ?

Yes, here we go. It is pictured (in the first one) right beside a "normal" 1977 Kennedy Half. And my picture taking abilities are known far and wide to be incredibly lacking....so....fair warning !
(bad light here at the office too !)

Here are some pics.....not too good....but the best I can do for now.

So....like I said.....there is ZERO signs of copper on the reeded edge here. And both the reverse and obverse seem PROOF & SILVER to me. And I know.....my pictures suck !

Very nice!

I am sure the 1977 Kennedy is plated. The dates signify his election in 1960 and the 20th anniversary of that election in 1980.

You should keep the NIFC coins. You might need them for future trades or gifts for the kids.

Eaglefoot, that's alot of NIFC's, what is different about a fed box from a standard box? What do the wrappers look like? I'm just way curious! Thanks, ffd

They are String & Son Co. wrapped......and the halves are "machine wrapped" and usually yellow paper. They come from the Federal Reserve....so they aren't "bank wrapped" or "customer rolled" or anything like that. And they would come from the nearest Fed. Resv. to your location.
I know very little about Brinks rolls, others can speak to that, but I assume they're rolled by specific "Brinks" facilities and outlets.

NIFC would be re-rolled dumps even if coming from the fed. Otherwise, they would be in US mint wraps. Is this correct?

There is evidence that some 1971-D and 1977-D half dollars were struck on silver planchets....and with the other stuff floating around that all of us have been finding, it is very feasible that there may be something nice like that floating around in bankrolls. Keep your eyes peeled. Sooner or later one of us may get very lucky.

Weigh the half dollar. If it is plated it will weigh the same as clad. If it is silver it will weigh differently and have some value! Sincerely, John Leckrone

Eagle, When I read your initial post about the 77 Kennedy half I was thinking, commemorative issue. But then I though more about it and checked the US Mint's site under historians corner, and there were no comm.s struck that year.

Now that I see your pics, I'm not sure what to think. Odd, yes. Rare, not sure never heard of that type of coin before. Novilty coin? Eh!

I will say this, it is unique.
