I've always wanted a Southern gold coin, specifically from the Dahlonega Mint. I pulled the trigger on this one. I will also post in the grading section

Congratulations. Great coin with a lot of history behind it. Someday I hope to own one of it's brothers.

Beautiful coin! I also had an 1844-D at one point in similar condition, but I ended up selling it at a profit. It does appear to be lightly cleaned, but not too bad.

I live about an hours drive from Dahlonega and think of going up there one day with my metal detector.I'm sure that place has been pounded to death but you can never tell.,Sure its got a just a little wear but think of the history and the hands that used that coin 160 years ago. You picked a Great looking coin

Man, that's cool! I want to go there and check out the gold museum. I checked out some YouTube videos. Looks like a cool town. I took my detector with me to Vermont and did some searching around the Rupert area where Reuben Harmin had his "mint" used to strike the Vermont coppers. I found a foundation overgrown with moss adjacent to the stream and started looking. Did not find any coins but found an old horse bit and some square nails. I plan to go back for sure. Let us know what you find!

Wow! what a great coin. I have a real desire to collect a half eagle example from all the branch mints someday, but right now all I have is the Phillidelphia. This past week I visited the Charlotte Mint Museum of Art and affirmed that desire.
I agree with XF, but cleaned doesn't jump out at me...what feature gives away that this coin has been cleaned? I have a tough time with gold coins.
I would certainly only buy this one in plastic (as I see you have).
