My mother gave me an interesting item the other day. She has worked at a bank for over 40 years and over the years has come across some interesting bills and coins. Today she gave me a 1967 one dollar Canadian bill. The bill has no serial number and no red 1867-1967 number where the serial number usually is. I know there are 3 varieties of this bill and the one I have IS NOT one of them. Comments please.

Scan the note and let's see a piccy, pretty hard to talk about notes without something to examine.

Usually when these "No Serial Number" notes appear, they are fakes. (People will use chemicals to remove serial numbers.)

I have a great scan of the note but I'm unable to load a picture onto the site.

Use Imageshack.us or Photobucket.com
You can upload to that site, and then copy the "Forum Thumbnail" and post it to your reply.

Welcome to CCF. Please post a photo using photobucket and some one here can help you with your note. John1

Here is the picture, zero signs of a chemical being used at the top to remove the red ink. I had a better scan but photobucket wouldn't except it. http://s1217.photobucket.com/albums...9/MrGates11/

Just wanted to mention, this bill has been in a safety deposit box since the late 60's or early 70's untouched.

I would send it to a TPG, to let them grade and authorize it.

design elements can be erased, the advice to authenticate is wise.

How do you go abouts authenicating it? I pretty sure its real (doesn't everyone say that) just because I know the bills history for the last 40 years and I'm not sure someone could make a fake as good as this one looks that long ago... maybe I'm wrong.

If you want it authenticated, get hold of BCS, Banknote Certification Services, in Kitchener, Ontario. They will tell you how to send it, what the cost is, etc. Hope this helps.

Thanks, is it safe to send such a potentially valuable item over the mail? Or do I have to make a trip to kitchener. I live between toronto and ottawa so its a little bit of a hike. What is roughly their response time? Has anyone else heard of a bill that looks like this one?

I just checked the BCS website and they don't do error notes. So now what?
