My computer is hit and miss right now, but I'm working to resolve the issue. I think it's a hard drive connection problem. Most of the time I get a blue screen with 'Please Install Operating System' at powerup.

I'll be back ASAMCSWA (As Soon As My Computer Starts Working Again)

Best wishes with your laptop, Yokozuna. Recently I was getting the BSOD - Blue Screen of Death - and messages about hard drive failure. It seems that the cause of it was Mozilla Firefox. Started using a different browser and all has been well (knock on my woody head) for the last 2 months.

May be time to cash out part of a collection and acquire a new machine. Not fun.

I know it's not feasible for many folks, but I have found that it's almost always better to keep patching an older machine as long as it isn't falling behind in security updates due to age. Also, I have personally found a Linux conversion to be a decent pathway to stretch old hardware, although that certainly isn't for everyone.

What do you need it for? As long as you aren't a gamer... If it's basic email, web surfing, YouTube, casual gaming, and Word/Excel, go a couple of notches below the fastest CPU and max out the memory & drive space.

I've done that since my first machine in the 80s and always gotten 5 - 10 years out of them.
