Is this worth anything?
To a young, potential coin collector, this
Buffalo nickel is worth a smile! Find a kid at a coin show or elsewhere and give it to him/her. Pique his curiousity about American history, the western frontier, by pointing out the Native American and American bison. Tell him/her that they could probably find a book about coins at the library; this, in order to learn more about their nickel and other old coins.
About value .... To those of you who feel a low grade, common date
Buffalo nickel is worth $1-$2, I d mention that, at a local coin club meeting a few months ago, I bought two rolls of common date, 1935-37, Philly nickels for $14, apiece. The average grade is fine and all have full dates with no damage. Doing the math, that's 35 cents, each. Bear in mind that I was bidding in a roomful of thirty-plus collectors! This suggests that so-called book values were three to five times the "street" value.
Hopefully, many of my nickels will find a home in the pocket of some future collector. So, what's the nickel worth? .... As for me, I'll settle for a kid's smile, any day!
