These were a cool thrift find today. 1966 No.1-3 and 1968 No. 1-2.

Very interesting reading what was up with the hobby, and world, at the time. The number of complaints about the look of the Churchill commemorative is amusing.

Here's a Walking Liberty price list and Capital ad from February 1966:

1. If you are an ANA member, you have access to the digital editions going back to the beginning.

The Royal Mint described the Churchill Crown as "one of the most difficult ever produced." Each cupro-nickel crown had to be struck by two extremely heavy presses, one of 250 tons and the other 360 tons. The Royal Mint had to remove some details such as Nemon's small initials to the left of the head. The relief was flatter than the sculptor had intended and Nemon was not at all happy with the result. The initials remain on the VIP Specimen, no mintage figures are known.

BStrauss, good to know, thank you. There's something to be said about a hard copy, though.

I do feel for the designer, I'm sure the manufacturability of some designs are simply unknown until they're hit by the press...

I love looking through old copies of the Numismatist. I have 6-8 full years from the 1920s to the 1980s (in addition to those I have since I joined in the 2010s), plus a few one-offs.

I use the digital site to search, but if it's something in my field, I want to have a physical copy. Just reading the ads is fascinating.
