Lovely notes, Düssistoe, and great idea for a thread!
Here's one of my personal favourites - the Bank of England £5 design first used in 1990 and depicting George Stephenson, the Rocket locomotive and the Stockton & Darlington Railway on the reverse:

Last week was the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway and what is generally accepted as the first steam-hauled passenger train service in the world. There had been short colliery lines before, but this line was 26 miles long and demonstrated that whole communities could be linked by rail. The Skerne Bridge shown on the banknote was designed by Durham architect Ignatius Bonomi and is the oldest railroad bridge in the world that is still in use today. Indeed you can still travel by train between Stockton and Darlington and about 20 miles of the original route is still in use.
