Just a pretty little penny ha'penny with the 1843/34 overdate. This whole series was struck in such great quantities for colonial use -- mintage >5M overall -- that even this key variety isn't too difficult for modern collectors to find.

Pretty quiet around here...must be August!
This gruesome-looking halfpenny token was issued in the 1660's or thereabouts by Will Newman for his business at the sign of the Anchor and Cable on New Fish Street Hill in London.
The trick to deciphering and attributing many of these very small, crudely made tokens from the 1600's is to read the legends continuously from obverse to reverse. In this case the star indicates the beginning of the legend on each side and it therefore reads, "WILL NEWMAN AT THE [ANCHOR AND CABLE] ON NEW FISH STREET HILL [HIS HALF PENY]."Williamson 2014, 17mm, feather-light at 2g.
