Many collectors of the series consider this one to be the most beautiful of all the classic US commemorative coins. It is the result of the combined effort of the husband and wife team of James Earle Fraser and Laura Gardin Fraser - the Oregon Trial Memorial half dollar. James and Laura were considered to be among the finest American sculptors of their time. I think the designs on the coin make it the most medal-like of the classic series. (And I mean that in a good way!) 1926 Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar I have posted about the Oregon several times before, you can read them here: Read More: Commems Collection.

I'd like to get an Oregon Trail half-dollar sometime! This is one of my favourite modern coin designs - very familiar, but I love the way the roos fill the circular field of the coin!

I am missing the coins of the Central American Republic in this thread. I love the sunrise behind the mountains of these.

This is a scene I've always wanted to be part of! Peel Castle traces its origins back to the 11th century, when Magnus Barefoot, the Norse King of Man, built a lodge there. As a kid growing up on Long Island's Great South Bay I spent months each year on sailboats...I believe we would have called this one a gaff cutter, but I'm more than willing to entertain other viewpoints on that! I'll post the 21st-century view below the token. Isle of Man, 1811 Douglas Bank 1d token. Withers 2060, Davis 10. (ex-Davisson's, over the counter a few years ago)

Lovely token Daltonista! I visited the Isle of Man in 2017. Peel Castle is stunning. A very common design over the centuries in the UK was the cruciform shields reverse. For me one of the most attractive versions was that used on the later George V florins - also the last time this design was used on circulating coins:
