A new addition from Ukraine, a 2 Hryvni coin minted in 2000 commemorating Ivan Kozlovsky. Kozlovsky (1900-1993) was a lyric tenor. He gained notoriety as a favorite of Stalin, but as a result was under constant surveillance and not to allowed to leave the Soviet Union under any circumstances. Throughout his life he was an active proponent of Ukrainian music, and performed works by Ukrainian composers such as Mykola Lysenko, Yakiv Stepovy, Kyrylo Stetsenko, and Mykola Arkas.
Also a new 100 Korun coin from the Czech Republic minted in 2004 commemorating Leos Janacek (1854-1928). He was a Czech composer, among other things, inspired by Moravian and other Slavic music, including Eastern European folk music. Nowadays he is considered one of the most important Czech composers, along with Dvorzák and Bedrich Smetana.
