Well the 17th Century is unsurprisingly going to start much like the 16th ended:

Bad news folks--I don't see a pathway to 100 pages of coins on this thread. As it turns out, that Denar is my only coin from this century that is in scope for the thread. I've got Dengas, Solidi, and Hellers plus a bunch of higher denomination coins, but nothing else in the Denier/Denar/Penny range. I'm hopeful that others will jump in with contributions from their own collections in the future (as will I if I happen to pick up anything else in scope), but this is it for me for now.

I have a William III fourpence but not a penny, unfortunately. I'll have to check if there's anything else that would match.

You have definitely done your part, @Spence. 980+ replies and 66 pages certainly surpasses every expectation I had. But I suspect there are still quite a few pennies and deniers of various kinds out there . . . I hope they find their way here, eventually!

Well, I am still occasionally acquiring them for one of the themes in my collection, and have picked up a few in the last month. Here is a Danish penning from the reign of Sven Estridsen (1047-1075): I like that on the obverse this coin has copied a rather far away Byzantine design (St. Michael -- the winged figure at tghe left -- conferring the symbols of power to a monarch dressed in Byzantine garb), but the reverse is a more typical Anglo-Saxon style.

Not mine @dear, but rather from @tdz.
That is a *really* nice early Danish coin. I'm jealous of your acquisition @tdz!

Lovely penning with an interesting design, tdziemia. And I think it might have been minted in Lund, back then Denmark, now Sweden, so there is a nice Swedish connection there.
