Quote: What would the results be if you went directly from the distilled water bath to the Verdi-Care?
No idea, I went thru the steps outlined in the video.
Each and every dirt coin is unique. Sometimes the polarity ladder does nothing, other times only Acetone, or Xylene, or DW, or any combo thereof has effect.
Sodium Ses always produces and sometimes so well that a round of VC is not required. However, VC will always be part of my toolset and I use in probably 80% of my projects.
This is the first restoration completed of many finds that came out of an 1880's site. The bulk of coins found were Seated: 2 halfs, 5 quarters, and 7 dimes. The only non-Seated coinage was this Morgan and an 1866 Shield. Not a single CENT which is unexplainable.
This Morgan has cartwheel luster and some nice perimeter toning (I'm not so great at getting my camera to capture). I did not VC this coin.
Very nice restoration! I was surprised to see how much just distilled water and acetone alone improved the coin's appearance. Looks like the rest really did the trick! Nice conservation! Thanks for sharing DOCC!
The recent hoard of Seated coinage found at an 1881-1882 railroad camp is starting to get processed. A total of 14 Seated coins were found, here are the two half dollars.
VC was instrumental on the 1871 although not necessary on the '66.
