*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum.  ***Hi all. I just purchased a very nice condition 1859 Indian Head cent via ebay auction. I noticed what I thought was an off center strike on the obverse as I was bidding. I didn't notice a crack or two on the upper reverse. The seller photo shows it, I just didn't notice it before I had the coin in my hand. These are the seller's photos I downloaded from ebay, converted to jpg, and resized to <300 kb: Obverse:  Reverse:  Any idea of what is the effect of these two errors (if they are) on the value of the coin verses a coin in the same condition without them? Thanks for your input!

I see a slight Misaligned Die, a Rim Fin, and a nice sized Rim Cud. The obverse looks like it has wipe marks from an old cleaning. Errers and Varietys.

So how do I get a refund? I am totally new to bidding on ebay. I went to the link Adam126402 put up and posted the three coins I bought from CnC recently. |

There is a raised line at about 10:30 that does not really show up well on the photo I posted. Using my 10x B&L Hastings Triplet magnifier, I see it continues through the leaf to its right and into the next leaf parallel to the midrib of the leaf. It crosses the gap into the right arc of leaves. I lose it in those leaves. Not sure if it connects into the crack that begins at the rim and even looks like it is on the edge of the coin. There is a very noticeable gap as the crack passes between two dentils and across the top edge of the rim.

The coin weighs 4.665 grams. I have a cheap scale, so I don't trust the third decimal place. Maybe not even the second. But I don't want to spend thousands on a lab grade balance I could trust.

Errers and Varietys posted that he saw wipe marks from an old cleaning on the Obverse. I just looked at it with my 10x hand lens and compared to the photo. I didn't see most of them. The coin has a sheen to it. Could it be oiled to make it look better? Can I soak it with dish detergent and not ruin the coin to see if it will make a change? Yea or Nay?

If you can return the coin for a refund, I would not do anything to the coin. My question is how this seller is allowed to continue the fake bidder scheme.
