1796 P Liberty Cap Bust Right Half Cent Without Pole
1796 P Liberty Cap Bust Right Half Cent Edwards Copy
Edwards copies were likely produced in the mid-1860s in London or New York. The first known auction appearance was in W. Elliot Woodward's April 1866 sale. It is thought that the copies were produced by Dr. Francis S. Edwards. In the Breen Half Cent Encyclopedia, Breen described 10 distinct examples in his Condition Census for the variety. Six years later, R. Tettenhorst described four additional examples. He also noted duplications in Breen's roster, and remarked that one of those in the early list is actually an electrotype of the Edward's copy.

AG3 About Good - Clear enough to identify. G4 Good - Outline of bust clear, no details. Date readable. Reverse lettering incomplete. VG8 Very Good - Some hair details. Reverse lettering complete. F12 Fine - Most of hair detail shows. Leaves worn but all visible. VF20 Very Fine - Hair near ear and forehead worn, other areas distinct. Some details in leaves show. EF40 Extremely Fine - Light wear on highest parts of head and wreath. AU50 About Uncirculated - Only a trace of wear shows on Liberty's face. |
