NH state quarter

Has anyone seen or know of a state quarter without a mint mark?
I got a 2000 NH quarter in change from the coffee machine at work and where there should be a P or D, there is nothing, not even a scratch!
Is this unusual? I'm just dying to learn more about this coin.
I would put up a picture but I can't get a good scan of it.
I called the US Mint and they said they didn't make any without a mint mark.

I am not aware of any that wouldn't have a mint mark. It's a shame that you can't post a picture. I would be interested to see if the surface looked altered in any way. It is certainly possible that it is a mint error.

Do you have a coin dealer close to you? You may want to ask his opinion.

Sounds like a filled die to me. I remember hearing a lot about those when the NH quarter came out. Nothing rare or valuable, but interesting to have!

I will try to get a picture of this quarter on Monday and post it.
Using a 20x loupe, I have not seen any sign of a filled mark or cracks or damage. In fact the area looks like the rest of the blank areas.
Here in Martinsville, Va there are no coin shops listed (it's a small town). Is there a reputable person or dealer that can be trusted to send this quarter to so they can have a look see?

Kyra is correct. This is more than likely a filled die. All master dies are created with the mintmark, so no U.S. coin dated after 1986 will not be minted without a mintmark. (exception Philly cent). If the die is filled with grease or wax, the mintmark or missing letter will not show on the finished coin. The area will appear just as the rest of the field.
