As this breaking story will probably be removed soon.....

quote:
MACOMB - The investigation of four gold-colored coins believed to be counterfeit will be turned over to the U.S. Secret Service.

Macomb police said a teenage male passed the four $1 coins at the McDonald's restaurant on East Jackson Street. The teen's mother has reimbursed the store, and no arrests will be made as a result of the case.

Police said the teen received the coins as a gift in a collector's set. It is believed the coins in the proof set are not actually legal tender.

Officers said markings missing on the coins made them appear counterfeit, such as three connected hash marks. The lettering on the sides of the coin is also too close together.

Police said the teenager didn't know the coins could not be spent.

The coins had the faces of presidents George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The Madison coin was identified as suspicious by a local bank because that coin has not yet been released to the public.

That's Great!

Reminds me of when an ignorant teenager had to call his supervisor at Burger King because of an Ike

What I meant is never what I said unless it's something other then the possibility of the inaccurate truth.

A couple of things come to mind. #1. The entire Macomb Police Department needs to take a US Citizen Competency test and #2. Please see #1...

I can see the crime in the coins ,,but it has nothing to do with spending them !

They are, thats why these cops are taking a reaming, not only the cops but the Bank personell is also stupid. They really need to call a expert before making accusations like this. The bank employee said the Thomas Jefferson coin hasn't been released so they must be fake, well that would be true except the US Mint has released it in the 4 coin Proof set which you would think the bank employees or atleast manager of the bank should know

Almost makes me want to take a set down & spend 'em. I'd love to have them arrest me for this, just to expose the local police as the morons they really are. If they actually cuffed this guy, or took him in he's got good grounds for false imprisonment.

What really bothers me about this is that BANK employees specialize in our money. These are people who get paid money for working with money! All of a sudden, I feel safer burying my money in jars in the backyard!

Just plain dumb. I bet the poor kid nearly wet himself when the police showed up. And all he wanted was a Big Mac.
