Do you collect one denomination at a time?

Coins from a certain year at a time?

Only mint sets?

Only proof sets / coins?

Whatever you can get your hands on?

I use to be, whatever I can get my hands on. Now I have narrowed my focus to completing Franklin & Kennedy half dollars and Lincoln Cent sets. Once I complete these sets in Dansco albums, my next collections will be Ike and Peace dollars. I also am wanting to begin a 7070 colection as finances allow.

I collect what ever I can get my hands on, but mainly focusing on Lincoln cents, Roosevelt dimes and Kennedy half dollars at the moment. As well as trying to fill holes in my Aussie collection.

I'm 100% focused on my Lincolns right now....nothing else matters to me. I've upgraded most of my complete biz strike set, no more G coins in it. Now I'm working on the Fine and EF coins. My goal is lofty and will take a long time to complete, I want all MS and BU grade's. At the momement I'm working on obtaining every Lincoln proof, I'm nearly there. Those pesky older proofs are difficult to obtain and expensive.

I will complete this set! It will have every Lincoln Cent ever made and most of the significant error coins. Dang 1955 DDO is haunting my savings account......arrrggggg.....I want one so bad. Every day I wait is costing me money, they are going up in value just too fast!

I just hope and pray someday my childern or my grandkids will appreciate and enjoy the set. It's a LOT of time and money putting this together.

I have found that by changing up every now and then helps keep everything I collect fresh.

But I never shut my eyes when I'm looking for one type or another ,, a person never knows where the deal will pop up .

Trying to focus, no such luck. A good deal with eye appeal. Recently looking for colonials and busties.

Lately I have been working on my State Quarters, Presidential dollars, and Ike dollars and I have been upgrading my Washington quarters (1932-1998). I have also been trying to keep everything up to date (2007) But I would like to work on my lincoln cents some more.

Do you think that the Sacagawea Golden Dollar will be the forgotten dollar now that the Presidential Series has started?

I collect everything that the mint made in the last 200+ years. Right now I'm focused on Shield nickels and Jeffersonian nickels.

I'm very broad in focus. I'll be running after after one type or one year to fill a type set, then I'll see a thread here with a beaurtiful Washington quarter for example. With the excellent photography skills of many of our forum members it's easy for me to get excited over a well photographed quarter, cent, or whatever. And off I go.

I really like the classic eagles and fractionals, including the double eagles. They're mighty pricey though so I've got to watch I don't get carried away.

I grab what I can and sale it for my Lincoln upgrades and quarters. I tried the stick to what you like and it gets darn expensive so I just get it all in either trades or really good deals and when I see someone needs what I have I trade it for what I need. it don't cost me a lot and I still get to meet my goals so it is a win win for me

When I recently started collecting I only bought high grade common dates. I basically felt it was the best way to enjoy the hobby. You can get really high grade commons for cheap. You have a beautifully preserved piece of history that you didn't pay an arm and a leg for.

I could not for the life of me understand why someone would pay such outrageous prices for basically the same coin.

I wish I could figure out what did it, but something started drawing my attention to the infamous keys. That started gaining my fascination. I eventually picked a key Lincoln shortly after my father gave me his old collection (mostly worn commons). After that I figured, why not? Now I'm working on a solid Lincoln set.

I've seen a lot of "THE ULTIMATE LINCOLN COLLECTION!" for sale on ebay. But many times they're missing keys and/or the semi-keys are worn and corroded. And the rest of the set aren't much better. So my goal is a complete, XF+ Lincoln set with nothing but nice coins with decent eye appeal. Some of the coins will have to settle for less. My 22 Plain is G6, and I'm awaiting arrival on a VF 1914-D. But IMO both very nice for the grade.

I still have lots of holes to fill, and LOTS of upgrades. It's a long journey and they're not getting cheaper :(

I'm with Arthrene and and t360. I really really really need to sort through all that I currently have and 2X2 and "albumize" my current collection. I bought everything I thought was a good deal, and now I am quite overwhelmed with what I have that's not catalogued.

But hey, the spending is over for a while, and I can keep myself busy putting things in order for the first part of the winter. Of course I will have to buy supplies now. Then Christmas will be over and the prices will be back to normal and I can go on a spree again......

Oh, and to answer the original question, I collect anything that looks nice, but I think I will narrow it down once I start sorting and putting things in place.

I was completely focused on Morgan dollars when I first started and had almost a complete date/mintmark set. Then one day I started looking at my coins closely and was introduced to the VAM world and instead of collecting all different date VAM's I narrowed my search to a specific date of VAM and studied every book I could on that particular date (so I would know it if I happened to see it somewhere). Then one day I bought a coin that was attributed as a specific kind of VAM that narrowed my search from a specific date to a specific type of VAM within that date and collected a full set of those and I strived to have the best set in the registry, well it wasn't long and I had the #1 set but I still wasn't satisfied so I kept looking for upgrades for this set and almost got burnt out on collecting all together, but then I bought me a Dansco 7070 album and thought I would just give it a try for awhile and when I started filling those holes the spark was ignited in me once again and I was determined to finish this set and be proud of it once I did (none of this settling for a coin then upgrading later stuff, I was going to buy the nicest coin available to me and keep that coin in my set forever). Little did I know that some of those AU coins that I was looking for cost as much as 4 MS-64 Morgans that I collected in the past and the funds just wasn't there for the coins I wanted for this set, but instead of settling for coins I would never be happy with I started selling off my prized collection of VAM's to fund my newly sparked interest and actually did quite well. Now I am at kind of a stand still because I had allot of family problems and it threw me into a life of depression and I couldn't focus on anything at all for awhile, but now I am starting to get my life back together and am trying to get my focus back on my coins and finally finish this type set. Every now and then I will buy some of the VAM's I specialized in to resale to fund a major purchase for my 7070 set but have found that my interest has sparked others interest in the same set of VAM's and the prices on my once cheaply obtained coins are rising in value rapidly

I collected and hoarded just about everything.
I am now focusing solely on my 2 Cent collection (Well almost) over the next few years I intend to divest myself of rest rest of my coin hoard to finance this en devour.
I still buy silver if its a good price and every now and again something will fall into the "I really have to have that" category.

I collect just about everything. Right now I am working on a 7070. I have a nearly complete date set for 3CN as well as Barber dimes. Of course with those two the only coins I still need are very expensive, if not impossible to get. I have nearly completed a Merc. dime set but have stalled because the 7070.
