Rumors have been floating around about Anacs moving to a "new and improved" slab. I have not heard directly from Mr. Taylor, but many others are spreading the word that he has in fact stated that by the FUN show, we could see new holders.

Of course, I would love to see normal size holders with the intercept shield like those used by his old company ICG.

Anyone else hear of this rumor? Anyone spoken to Mr. Taylor lately?

I know that he has been "testing the waters" and getting some opinions. As far as I know, no decisions have been made yet.

I'd love to start a new rumor: ANACS will reslab its current holders into the new ones for nothing.

All kidding aside, if the rumor of new slabs proves true, it'll solve many collectors' storage dilemma. Right now, I have to use PCGS slabs as "bookends" for my ANACS coins.

I sure hope there not changing the slab. I can see all sorts of problems. The worse case is having dealers and buyers saying "OH! that's an old slab. The grade is incorrect. They changed the slabs to note the difference between the old and new so the collector wouldn't be buying overgraded coins."

I say leave the slab alone.

Alternatively, the "old" slabs could be promoted as being undergraded similar to PCGS's old green labels which tend to draw a little more value.

I'm certain ANACS will seriously weigh all the pro's and con's before making any change. I have little doubt that it will place numismatists' interests ahead of other considerations.

I sure hope that they do change. These little slabs make it difficult to transport.

ND please explain your statement as I thought Anacs slabs, being smaller, would be easier across the board as they must be lighter, take a smaller box and they are pretty much square. I like them better than anything else that has crossed my hands and, if I were a crook, I am sure they would be easier to steal due to their convenient "palm size"? Actually it makes no difference to me, one way or another, but do hope, if they do change, it will be to something that will SET them apart from other slabbing companies. You will have to keep us posted on this one!

When I pack for a show, I use NGC boxes. They hold both NGC and PCGS holders very nicely. I am obsessive-compulsive about being orderly, so I arrange the coins based on series, date, grade, and so on. Very neat and orderly. Anacs holders are quite a bit smaller than those of the other services, and DO NOT fit well in the plastic boxes. It makes counting harder, and just not easy to deal with.

Now I agree that they should be different in appearance. I am hoping that they will not mirror those of ICG, but will incorporate the technical advantages. Just closer in size to the other three, so storage, and easy access is obtainable.

With the number of changes going on at Anacs, under the leadership of Mr. Taylor I fully expect to see some great things out of Anacs.

I kind of figured what your answer would be but I just had to ask! Personally I am not sure I like the white surround that Anacs and NGC currently uses as it tends to distract from some coins while it does high light others? ICG uses black which also has the same effect os some of the coins so in the end PCGS gets the vote of approval as the satin plastic look doesn't effect any coin placed inside. Anacs "white" does look great in one of my walnut holders though! Guess it is a matter of personal taste but do hope Anacs takes a real hard look at what they deem would be an improvement before they make the change. Quite honestly I think they should pick a few dealers and collectors, who submit regularly, and let them do a little sampling before making a final decision.

The white in the holder makes it easier to photograph though

Now these are unedited. You can use photoshop and other programs to eliminate the slab.

I guess I have to be the killer of progress here folks. I still hope that ANACS won't be changing their slab size or their grading standards.
