Obviously, this question is not directed at fellow residents of Canada. I have an idea in mind, just trying to get some info on how often other countries are able to find coins of decent grades in their circulated money?

I find plenty of circulated Canadian coins here in Massachusetts. The best one that I ever found was a very worn 1936 dime (unfortunately no dot)that I got in change.

258 different coin issuing entities in my collection...and counting.

I will occasionally find cents and nickels here in Topeka - maybe one or the other once a year or less.

I search through about 2-300 rolls of nickels per week on average for the nickel survey that I am doing; I would say I find about a dozen Canada nickels in those. Best Canada find in change here in KY was about a month ago; a 1929 cent in VF from a bank roll.

I am considering putting sets together, obviously not proof but at least xf-au for people that don't want to pay a fortune for the sets at coin shops or ordering from the mint or even hoping to find some in their change. I'm just trying to find out out how much interest there would be and also try to settle on pricing. I have noticed that the royal mint specimen sets that come in an envelope are not very much better condition than ones straight out of an un-circulated roll and yet the mint wants $25.00 plus shipping. Seems crazy!

When I lived up in the more "extreme" north (Minnesota, Washington State, and Wisconsin) I would find Canadian coins all the time. Everywhere else I have lived, not so much.

I don't often find anything other than us pennies here, but every once in a while I will get a quarter or something. But almost never anything rare or even all that old.

In $100 face value of nickels, I find 1-2-- 1 per 25 rolls.
In $25 face pennies, I find about 5-- 1 per 10 rolls.
Dimes and quarters are much less common.

I would be interested in some Canadian coins. Maybe not full sets of each denomination, but a 'type set' of sorts.

Well...when I was younger, we used US/Canadian money interchangeably just S. of the border.
I still get a lot of Canadian cents from the bank, almost 1 per 100.

wheatiefan.........since I am still ironing out this idea, what do you mean type sets? please elaborate. I probably would only begin doing this if I got enough interest in it, maybe your idea would be better than my idea. lol

A type set is a set of coins with one example of each denomination for each design. Eg KGV, KGVI, QEII. Including commemorative, different obverse heads etc. etc.

In essence, one coin for each different type of coin. Hope that makes sense.

And I would be interested as well Malissa.

oh, that does make sense. thats a good idea too.
I'm going to maybe think of where to move this post and how to title it to see how many more would be interested in the same thing. So I am assuming to keep things from getting too complicated (or expensive) that it would be done one denomination at a time??? or would I try to get an entire set of each design and each denomination all at the same time??

I think for me putting it together it would be easier to get one denomination at a time.

You should do it the best way for you. People may ask you for specific orders as well. You can post it in the buy, sell trade section. Or you might even want to run a contest to generate interest.

Ok, Im going to write it all out what I would need, what the costs would be to get decent sets made and stuff like that. Then possibly, I will post the offer in the buy and sell area and see what drums up. In the meantime I'm sure people will spot this topic as well. thanks for your opinions.

i would find one every month or so about 10-15 years ago just looking through change; but now, its almost as if they have all been sorted out (probably one of our fellow members). I've had 2 so far this year.

just giving my two cents...
