1997 $2 5c Mule

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the possiblity of there being a $2 mule? Yesterday I received a 1997 $2 coin from a shop in Melbourne that has a 95%+ double rim. I placed a 5c piece over the top of it last night to see if it fitted and it seemed to. Any information you have on this possibility would be appreciated.

They do look a bit like that, but unfortunately are not struck with a 5c obverse die. If you measure the size of the effigy on your 'interesting' $2 and a normal $2 you will find they are the same size, and larger than the effigy on a 5c.

Im sorry I havent replied, I have been on holidays (where I found my first 2006 $2!!). Thanks for the advice, I was soooo sure it was a mule.....bugger! I will have to keep looking, but that is half the fun of collecting!
