ok thats not as attrocious as I thought they would be, I may get a set for my daughter since I have seen what they will look like, but I dont think even if they had a picture of the first ladies with diamonds around the rim I would ever collect them things. One thing I just noticed and wanted to ask about, is it going to have In GOD We Trust on the edge or are they going to leave it off completely? I sure hope its there somewhere and not going to be the start of a trend

I am looking forward to getting some. I hope I like the edge lettering once I have one as much as I like the images.

Hmm ... not too shabby IF they have some decent relief. My main problem with those is that I think we already have way too many coins featuring dead presidents.
I will have to get them for my U.S. Type Set though.

Super Cool. And it's great to see Liberty back on a coin.
Which side would be considered the Obverse and which the Reverse?
"In God We Trust" is on the edge lettering.

The President Series looks great, it will make another generation of coin collectors, cool. My 10 year old is looking forward to the Presidents and the first ladies.
While everyone is making fun of the first lady series, I will be collecting those as well.
20 Years from now the Wives coin series will be worth way more then the dead presidents.

I'm happy there will be another set I can collect from pocket change. But, with the date of mintage, "Liberty", and "United States of America" all missing from the obverse, they look too much like medals! And intead of "one dollar" they have the abbreviated "1$" on them... a little informal for a coin. But collectors will be happy to see some edge lettering for a change.
Lastly, I think the designs you see in the posting are sketches, not actual strikings, so we'll need to wait and see if they strike up well or not.

I know I will be putting together at least 5 set of these and looking forward to them. I will put 4 in book and find a wall display like the maps to put in the extra room.

Looking foward to their arrival as well. I just realized that this will be the first coin series to come out while I am an active collector. Started the ASEs back in 1986 and then stopped and never started again until after the State quarters were well under way.

oooops, for some reason, I though the first ladies were going to be in silver. Gold...well looks like I won't be collecting them even though I think this will be the set to put together.
IMO, Silver would have been a better choice as many, many, more would then collect the set. And still I think thde mintages would be low once you got past Martha,

I was really hoping this series wouldn't happen. More dead presidents. We have enough of that already here is an exerp of an MSNBC article.
"While the government would save about $500 million annually in printing costs if it got rid of the dollar bill in favor of more durable coins, Castle said there are no plans to follow the lead of Canada and several European countries in ditching the smaller currencies."
Here's the whole article:
