Dear board members,

Sorry for the terrible subject naming but I have little experience with medallions, coins or similar.

I recently moved and I found this medallion when taking out a wall to make one large room from two small ones.

It looks to be in surprisingly good condition so it may have been dropped by the previous owner.

It has been on my desk for a few days now and I did some google searches and similar image search but with no luck. I'm hoping someone here could shed some light on what this might be.

If you need any additional images or details let me know.

Hello and welcome.

If there's no marks or stamps on it indicating artist or origin, identifying jewellery medallions like this is tricky. The whorly pattern looks to me either Maori/Polynesian or Celtic.

Many thanks for your reply and your welcome :)

I'm currently at work but I will check if there are any markings, though I didn't notice any the first time.

Looks like 3 whales in the same fashion as a ying/yang set you sometimes see. It's a generic design from an unknown artist. I doubt there will be any information on them as it's more then likely a street vendor and nothing that can be found in a real brick and mortar store.

Many thanks for your replies and the effort of looking in to this.

After more digging around on the internet I think I found it.

It seems to be the Christian version of the Japanese Tomoe symbol. So I guess you're right It's pretty generic :)
