Anyone have experience with both books? I'm wondering what the difference is between the two. I've been using Collecting World Coins 1901-2000 for a while and have just recently seen a copy of the Standard Catalogue (briefly). There didn't look to be a difference but there must be. Anyone know what that difference is?

Looking to upgrade my Collecting World coins, it's eleven years old.

the difference is the 'countries' that are listed in the catalog. the Collecting Coins eliminates many of the coin issuing entities that don't really have circulation coinage. Examples of World Catalog 'countries' not listed in Collecting Coins
Ajman, Alderney, American Samoa, Antigua and Barbuda, Belarus. I would guess the differences changes from edition to edition but I did a quick comparison of the 2009 versions of each to get these

Yes, that is the main difference.

The SCWC includes hundreds of pages of 'coins' from Palau, Liberia, Niue, Marshall Islands, North Korea, etc that the people of those countries don't even know about.

(I believe that) the Collecting World Coins 2011 edition still extends back to 1900. Otherwise the volume would be too small! The SCWC 2011 edition is thicker than a large telephone book and only extends back to 2000. I'd bet >75% are NIFC.

If you are a collector of common circulating world coins, I'd go for the CWC. If you are a coin dealer who regularly comes across proof coins or oddities, get the SCWC.
